These surface treatments can be applied to metals, fibre-reinforced materials and glass surfaces to protect them from abrasive and erosive wear and tear, cavitation and corrosion. In addition, the ceramic-based spray treatments also provide extremely effective thermal and electrical insulation.
Our German partner company LWK-PlasmaCeramic has a wide range of specialized technologies in house for implementing these treatments including powder- or wire- based flame spraying, high-speed flame spraying and atmospheric plasma spraying.

The materials that can be sprayed on include aluminium oxide, titanium dioxide, chromium oxide and zirconium oxide, either in the single oxide form or as a mixture of two or three components. Potential applications include tungsten and chromium carbide based hardmetal as well as aluminium, copper, bronze, molybdenum and various alloys. The layers applied are generally quite thin (0.1-0.5mm), but thicker layers (0.5-2.0mm) are also possible. Due to the relatively low surface temperature during the spraying process (<200°C), no deformation or structural changes to the material being treated will occur.

When the surfaces treated are ground and/or polished, they are very well suited for seals and bearing surfaces of rotating or oscillating machine parts such as shafts, rollers, wear rings, bushings, plungers, valves and valve rods as well as all kinds of seals with gaskets or O-rings. Typical counter surface materials include bronze, carbon, silicon carbide, stainless steel, hardmetal and sintered metal. Due to their greater thickness, rougher spray coatings are exceptionally effective in providing increased protection against frictional wear and tear of the type encountered by rollers, mixing devices, and transport screws.


Characteristics of the Plasdia® and Plasmet® treatment processes:

  • Surface layer thicknesses of 0.1 to 2.0 mm
  • Surface hardness of the layers = 600-1500HV; particle hardness = ca. 2500HV
  • Effective electrical insulator
  • Effective thermal insulator
  • Good anti-adhesive properties
  • Shock and impact resistant
  • Usable temperature range of -150°C to +900°C
  • Maximum dimensions: L=6000 mm, ø1000 mm and weight of 2.5T, other dimensions and weights on special order
